Milling Services

Milling Department

Through our use of performance cutting tools, reliable tooling, and modern CAM programming software our milling department produces the parts you need consistently and accurately. Our CAM software allows us to leverage the most performance out of our cutting tools, while also providing real-world accurate simulation of the machining environment before we ever take tool to metal. Prismatic parts are our core competency.

Our specialties are parts which fit in a 6” cube, up to parts which fit into a 10” x 10” x 24” work envelope. Though we often make parts that fit on a fingertip, we can on a case-by-case basis accommodate much longer parts than 24”. Typical job volumes are measured from prototypes up through 100pcs, and we accept one-off jobs and recurrent production work. We are not a high-volume manufacturer, and our equipment is tailored to short-run jobs.

We regularly use Multi-Axis Surfacing, 4th Axis Rotary Milling, and Dynamic Milling strategies to produce complex parts in less time and with less manual intervention than traditional techniques.

Pre-hardened alloy steel. Surface milled with 3D finishing. Involute spline cut to tight tolerance using vertical gear shaping equipment. Nitreg Gas Nitride treated.

Hardened 4340 alloy steel gear. Gear milled on 4th axis arbor.

Shredder Tooth

Hardened alloy steel tooth. Surface ground and hard milled internal hex. NDT performed by Magnetic Particle Inspection.

Key Features of the Romi DCM620-5F
Five Axis Kinematics

The Romi DCM620-5F is equipped with a rotary trunnion table. This feature significantly expands our machining capabilities into five axis, enabling us to perform complex milling operations at various approach angles without need for refixturing. This means fewer setups and faster turnaround times for intricate components.

Dual Contact Spindle

With its dual contact spindle, the Romi DCM620-5F is a more rigid machining platform than similar competitors’ machines. Also permitting us to take more aggressive cuts or to more effectively use extended reach tooling to perform intricate machining on components.

Advanced CNC Control

The Romi DCM620-5F is equipped with a Siemens 828D CNC Control. This CNC system is one of the best platforms in the world for control of five axis tool paths. It also brings us a great deal of efficiency in how we manage tools, programs, and process control.

In-Line Spindle Motor and Thermal Management

Precision and stability are at the heart of the Romi DCM620-5F. The in-line spindle motor and thermal management sensors ensure that the machine operates at optimal performance, even during long, demanding jobs. This results in superior accuracy and finish quality for every component we produce. Actively liquid chilled spindle housing ensures consistent Z Axis positioning and longer component life.
